Listify is committed to creating a trustworthy marketplace. While we work hard to keep the platform safe, your own vigilance is the best protection. Follow these guidelines every time you buy or sell.
Before you meet
Verify the seller
Check the seller's profile, listing history and contact details. Ask for ID for high-value items.
Inspect before you pay
Never send money before seeing the item in person. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Communicate on the Platform
Keep conversations within Listify where possible so there's a record if something goes wrong.
During the transaction
Meet in a public place
Always arrange to meet in a busy, well-lit location like a shopping centre or fuel station.
Bring someone with you
Take a friend or family member along when viewing a vehicle or property for the first time.
Use safe payment methods
Prefer bank transfers or mobile money over cash for larger amounts. Always keep proof of payment.
Document everything
Photograph the item, any paperwork and the handover location. Screenshot key messages.
Watch out for red flags
- Seller refuses to meet in person or show the item before payment
- Price is significantly below market value with no explanation
- Seller asks for payment via unusual methods (gift cards, crypto to unknown wallets)
- Listing photos appear to be copied from the internet
- Seller is pushy or creates false urgency ('another buyer is coming today')
